Kolkata Kameez - Pattern & Kit
This pattern comes with a 51-minute video tutorial, so you’ll be sure you can finish your project easily!
In India, they know how to be comfortable! In my travels there, I wore my Kameez almost exclusively. They're so comfortable to wear, and somehow incredibly elegant at the same time!
We have taken our fave Kameez that we bought there, and made a pattern so that you and I can make our own comfy, elegant tops.
The pattern comes full length, with 3/4 sleeves, and side slits to the hip (as is usual in India) but you can make it short or long, with short sleeves or long sleeves. You can even sew up those side slits and wear it as a dress!
This pattern comes in sizes Small to XL, all in the package. (Size chart is in the photos.)
Materials:
You’ll need 3.5 yards of 45” or 60” wide fabric, for the calf-length version with 3/4 sleeves. We recommend a lighter weight woven with lots of drape.
If you’re doing the Center Front and Cuffs in a contrasting color, you’ll need 3 yards of your main fabric, and 1/2 yard contrast - OR 3/4 yard contrast if you’re cutting your contrast on the bias.
We have put together some kits for you, too! They include the hard copy Pattern and enough Fabric to make the Kameez with a Bias-Cut contrast panel. Buy the kit, and you basically get the hard copy pattern for the digital download price!
IF YOU ARE USING THE BLOCK PRINTS MAKE SURE YOU PRE-WASH YOUR FABRIC SEPARATELY!!! BECAUSE THESE ARE HAND PAINTED, THE DYE MAY RUN DURING THE FIRST WASH.
